Stand Up for the Future of NARVRE and the Railroad Retirement Board
The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees (NARVRE) stands firmly in its commitment to safeguard the benefits, protect the fundamental rights, and ensure the secure futures of all retired and veteran railway personnel. At this pivotal moment, your active participation and thoughtful contributions are of huge importance. We are currently facing potential closures of Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) offices, coupled with ongoing discussions that could negatively impact the established railroad retirement system that we rely on. These critical developments necessitate our immediate and collective attention to ensure the continued well-being and security of our community.
Why This Matters to Every Member
The Railroad Retirement system, earned through decades of work and contributions, is a self-sustaining system, not a government entitlement. Retirees depend on their promised benefits. Any threat to this system, such as field office closures or legislation jeopardizing funding and structure, must be met with strong opposition.
Railroad Retirement Board field offices are essential lifelines, providing in-person assistance with retirement, survivor benefits, and disability support. Closing these offices would burden vulnerable members, especially those without internet access who rely on face-to-face help.
Now is the Time to Speak Up
NARVRE members are urged to immediately contact their Congressional representatives to voice strong opposition to RRB office closures and further negative legislation.
Contact your representatives and emphasize that the current system has functioned effectively for over eight decades and should remain unchanged. Highlight the negative impact of closures on retirees within their own states, emphasizing that these are real constituents. Encourage them to safeguard the vital services and structure upon which we rely.
Together We Can Protect What We Have Earned
Our earned railroad retirement benefits and support systems are under threat, and we must speak out. Congress needs to understand that the railroad retirement community is paying attention and expects the protection and respect we deserve. It’s crucial to take action now to ensure the Railroad Retirement Board remains strong, both for current retirees and future generations. We are continuing to work with the RRB regarding closures and new legislation, and will keep you informed of any changes.
