BIO

Bob was born Humberto Aparicio in El Paso, Texas and moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of 10 and at the age of 15 the family moved to Pico Rivera, Ca. where he attended El Rancho High School. Bob started working at the Southern Pacific Railroad at Taylor Yard in Los Angeles on April 17, 1959 as a Sheetmetal Worker Apprentice.  After two years of working there, he was set-up as a Journeyman.   He worked in all the work areas at Taylor and worked all shifts, third being his favorite.
In 1975 he became a Mechanical Training Officer (MTO).  He and his partner (MTO) Benny Hale established the Mechanical Training Center in Los Angeles.  Bob’s main responsibility was the Apprenticeship Program.  He and Mr. Hale covered the Southern Region which consisted of areas from Bakersfield to El Paso, Texas.   Classes that went through the Training Center were for Electricians, Machinists, Pipefitters, Carmen, Supervisors, Hostlers, Airbrakes, Welding, Safety and others.   Bob started with Southern Pacific and retired from Union Pacific in 2002 with (42) years service.
Bob was also a part time Instructor at the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College in the Manufacturing Department teaching Welding Technology and practical welding in the shop for (30) years.  He received an Associated Science Degree from LATTC and continued his education at UCLA that earned him a Lifetime Teaching Credential.
In 1976 Bob was invited to join the Espee Federal Credit Union Volunteer Program.  Volunteers are invited to join committees where there are vacancies and learn their duties, to help the stuff with back logs and help make decisions for the Credit Union.  He worked in different committees and learned their responsibilities.  He was then approved to join the Board of Directors and years later he was elected Chairman of the Board which he service several years.  Later the name of the CU was change to PacTrans Federal Credit Union.
Bob is a member of the Elks Organization # 1996 in West Covina, Ca.  He is also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4436 in La Puente, Ca.
He joined NARVRE (801) in 2003 and in 2011 he co-founded Unit 27 with his two co-worker friends Steve Lee and George Webb.  Bob became the Assistant Area 8 Director and President of Unit 27.  This June will be their six year anniversary.  Bob would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of Unit 27 for believing in NARVRE and our purpose of staying together as a unit.  Also many thanks to our late Director Mr. Bob Bloomer (his mentor) for all the help he has given him and his unit; we will never forget you and your wife Carol.  God Bless you   “Poor Bob”
